Edward Degas created many images of ballet dancers. This painting is based on a B&W photo displaying two views of his sculpture "Danse Espagnole." Just as Degas studied the human form, this is a color study playing off contrasting colors: red vs. green, blue vs. orange, and purple vs. yellow. Rendered in watercolor.
